Madonna has insisted she is feeling ''fine'' after falling off stage during the BRIT Awards.

The 56-year-old singer was in the middle of her first performance at the awards ceremony in twenty years when she took a nasty fall down a small set of steps after her backing dancers tried to remove her cloak.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: ''Armani hooked me up! My beautiful cape was tied too tight!

''But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up! Thanks for your good wishes! I'm fine #livingforlove (sic).''

Despite the nasty fall - which saw the 'Living for Love' hitmaker topple down the stairs and land on the floor with a thud, dropping her microphone in the process - she managed to continue on with her performance.

Although the legendary singer has insisted she is OK, the fall is likely to have devastated her after it was previously reported she was ''desperate to give the performance of her life''.

A source said previously: ''She is putting all her efforts into putting on a great show.

''She is working every hour, day and night, to ensure it will be her part of the show that everyone will be talking and tweeting about.''
