Lindsay Lohan's jail sentence on Friday (22Apr11) was overshadowed by memories of her late grandfather, whose birthday fell just a day before she was sent to prison for a fourth time.
The Mean Girls star appeared in court in Los Angeles to plead not guilty to a misdemeanour charge over allegations she stole a pricey necklace from a California jewellery store in January (11).
The judge ruled the accusation constituted a violation of her probation stemming from a 2007 Dui charge and sentenced her to 120 days behind bars.
Lohan was booked into Lynwood Correctional Facility late on Friday, but later freed on $75,000 (£46,875) bail.
She took to her Twitter.com page that day to express her thoughts, and revealed the court appearance was tainted by her grief over the death of her beloved grandfather several years ago.
She wrote, "With my family and thinking of my grandfather whos (whose) birthday was yesterday and unfortunately passed away a few years ago..."
But Lohan remained upbeat about her situation and even expressed her hope to continue working, adding, "I am just grateful for the life I have, I cannot explain how excited I am to begin working on films again, on top of that - I better get one of my two favourite scripts that I am in love with. My friends know what they both are... All my love - Ll God bless and g'night (sic)."
