Lindsay Lohan could be sent to prison for lying to police after her car accident in June, after it was announced she will now be charged with the crime. According to TMZ.com, Lohan told police she was NOT behind the wheel of her Porsche when it crashed into an 19-wheeler, however, according to several witnesses, she was.

Law enforcements sources say the cause will be filed as a misdemeanor by the Santa Monica City Attorney, possibly as early as this week. The charge is likely to have massive repercussions for Lindsay, who is currently on probation for jewellery theft. The criminal filing is likely to trigger a probation violation and Judge Stephanie Sautner - who has no doubt lost patience with Lohan - could send her to prison. Law enforcement sources also reveal how cops found prescription pills in her purse after the crash, with pills also scattered in her trunk. Authorities were reportedly prepared to charge Lindsay with drug crimes, though her lawyer Shawn Holley provided documentation to prove that the pills were legally prescribed.

You may remember that after the crash, Ms Holley made a mad dash for the hospital to "muzzle" her client, though arrived too late as police were already interviewing Lohan.
