Lindsay Lohan could find herself facing possible criminal penalties, including jail, if she fails to complete the remainder of her community service hours. The actress, who is currently suffering from the virus Chikungunya, is said to have less than a week to complete what is estimated to be around 100 hours of community service.

TMZ reports that the actress ‘isn't even close to finishing’ the required 240 hours and is expected to ask for more time from a judge on Wednesday, citing her recent illness.

Lohan was handed probation and 240 hours of community service after pleading no contest to reckless driving after a Santa Monica car crash in June 2012. As of her last progress report hearing in early November, Lohan still had 138 hours to complete.

The 28 year old is said to have completed some of her hours overseas while starring in Speed-the-Plow on London’s West End. The former Mean Girls' star is said to have put in the hours at a charity called Community Service Volunteers (CSV) in London.

"CSV is the U.K.'s leading national volunteering charity, whose reputation and integrity are above reproach," Lohan's lawyer Shawn Holley previously stated. "Lindsay has been working very hard to fulfil her commitment to CSV and to the court.”

However the New York Daily News reports a prosecution source as being ‘less than impressed in November’ and adding that the Santa Monica City Attorney's Office might challenge the hours. "We have some reservations. It's highly unusual," the source said, referring to the time Lohan has logged overseas.

Lohan spent the earlier part of this week in hospital after suffering a relapse of Chikungunya, a rare virus she contracted during a recent holiday to Bora Bora. She was thought to have overcome the virus but is said to have relapsed after being worn down by her recent travels.
