Early last month Lil Wayne publically criticised his current label Cash Money Records over the delay of his highly-anticipated new album 'Tha Carter V,' and as the release date is still unknown, Weezy is now suing the record label and its co-founder Birdman for $51m million.

According to TMZ, the 33-year-old rap star filed the lawsuit because the CEO Bryan 'Birdman' Williams and the label owe him a large amount of money for the rapper's still-unreleased new album. But because the money has been withheld, Wayne is requiring a judge to release him from his contract.

As well as walking away from the label, Wayne also wants $51 million and has asked to be appointed the joint copyright owner of all Young Money (a Cash Money imprint) recordings, which includes tracks from the likes of Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Their feud began late last year when Wayne took to Twitter to explain to his fans why 'Tha Carter V' was delayed once again. "To all my fans, I want you to know that my album won't and hasn't been released bekuz [label co-founder] Baby and Cash Money Records refuse to release it," he wrote in a series of tweets. "This is not my fault. I am truly and deeply sorry to all my fans but most of all to myself and my family for putting us in this situation."

"I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain't that easy," he continued. "I am a prisoner and so is my creativity. Again, I am truly sorry and I don't blame ya if ya fed up with waiting for me and this album. But thank you."

However, as the Grammy-winner resigned with the record label in April 2012 for four more studio albums, for the moment he is still contractually obliged to release another three until he is free. Under this current deal, he has only released 2012's 'I Am Not A Human Being II.'
