No, Lil Wayne has not joined Jay Z’s Roc Nation’s label. But you would be forgiven for thinking that, what with Weezy’s cryptic announcement at the KMEL Summer Jam in Oakland. Addressing his fans from the Summer Jam stage, Lil Wayne bragged that he’d “just signed a deal with my motherf***ing  idol.”

Alas, it was not a record deal that Weezy was referring to. Instead, he’s partnering with Tidal – that’ Jay Z’s streaming service, keep up – to release his music on the app. Well, there goes one more artist off the Spotify boat.

Lil Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant, confirmed the news via TMZ, but it was where the wind was blowing anyway. Earlier this month, the "Lollipop" rapper dropped his new single, "Glory," via the streaming service. Lil Wayne joins Jay Z, Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna Kanye West, Daft Punk, Alicia Keys, Jack White, Nicki Minaj and other artists as co-owners of Tidal. And with exclusive videos and early availability on concert tickets, as well as live show streaming... well, let’s just say this writer is giving the Tidal subscription some serious consideration.

As for label drama, Lil Wayne is currently working with Cash Money, but he has previously voiced his displeasure over the partnership. In December 2014, following the delay of his 11th studio album, Tha Carter V, the 32-year-old Grammy winner tweeted that he was a "prisoner" to the label and wants "off this label and nothing to do with these people." Cash Money's CEO is Lil Wayne's longtime friend and fellow rapper Birdman.
