Leonardo Dicaprio Is Forming An Unlikely Partnership With Director Michael Bay To Make A New Movie About The First American Cyclist To Tackle The Tour De France.
The Wolf of Wall Street star and Transformers filmmaker Bay are in talks to produce the Jacques 'Jock' Boyer biopic, which will be directed by Orlando von Einsiedel, who DiCaprio previously worked with on 2014 environmental documentary Virunga.
The as-yet-untitled project is still in the very early stages of development and a script has yet to be written, but the movie will tell Boyer's life story, which saw the religious athlete win 49 professional races by the time he decided to retire at the age of 32, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
He first competed in the Tour de France in 1981 and he went on to ride in the competition four more times, but never won.
Boyer was inducted into the U.S. Cycling Hall of Fame in 1998, but his personal life threatened to tarnish his reputation after an affair with a teenager landed him a lewd behaviour conviction in 2002.
He spent a year behind bars and later headed to Rwanda to find redemption through extensive charity work, and he ended up helping to form cycling's Team Rwanda.
