Lena Dunham has pretty much taken over female America in the space of a year. Before 2012 hit she was a lesser known writer and actress, who won an award back in 2010 for a short film called Tiny Furniture and then all but disappeared into the anonymous magnitude of Hollywood. Fast forward two years and her dramedy 'Girls' has become one of the best loved shows on TV- which is probably why in the 5 hours since hitting YouTube, the trailer for the second season of Girls has garnered almost 40,000 hits.
Last season ended on a rushed wedding between Jessa (Jemima Kirk) and Thomas John (Chris O'Dowd) and Hannah's (Dunham) breakup from her rather odd boyfriend Adam. The trailer gives very brief tasters of the kind of storylines and humour that we should expect including gems such as "I know that I always said he was murder-y in a sexy way, but what if he's murder-y in like a murder way?" and Shoshana's declaration: "I may be deflowered but I'm not devalued." Obviously, it hits all the spots for 20-somethings.
Riding on the enormous success of the show, Dunham got herself four Emmy nominations, as well as bagging a $3.5m publishing deal with a Harper Collins subsidiary for a book called Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Girl Tells You What She's Learned. Not bad for 26.
