Lena Dunham had to be rescued when she ran into difficulties during a charity paddleboard race on Saturday (01.08.15).
The 'Girls' creator was taking part in the Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink when she drifted off course and professional surfer Laird Hamilton came to save her.
She explained on Instagram: ''He is literally King Triton and as I struggled to complete BCRF's Paddle for Pink (an amazing event to support breast cancer research) he appeared as if from the ocean's depths and guided me to the finish line.
''I kept screaming 'will I make it?!' like we were in a disaster movie. He said 'yes, Lena, we will.' Ladies, there are still a few heroes we can count on... #ThankYouLaird #paddleforpink #3miles (sic).''
The New York Post's Page Six reported that Lena drifted off course into nearby Mecox Bay and Laird, 51, went after her.
A source said: ''It was a tough paddle . . . Windy and harder than expected. Lena was looking around for help. Laird swam out and dragged her back on course.''
Following the race, celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jane Krakowski and Tracy Anderson enjoyed a party which included entertainment by Nile Rodgers and Chic.
The Hamptons Paddle & Party for Pink benefits the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
