Mrs Scientology is apparently alive and well, despite the claims of Leah Remini.
Well this just gets weirder. Just weeks after the American actress Leah Remini left the Church of Scientology - claiming she will not be told how to live her life - she has filed a missing persons report regarding Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige.
According to TMZ.com, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed there is an on-going investigation into the whereabouts of Shelly, though wouldn't say whether Leah Remini was involved.
According to a report on the Hollywood Reporter, Shelly hasn't made a public appearance in six years, though back in 2012, her attorneys issued a statement saying, "Any reports that [Shelly] is missing are false."
Now, the Church of Scientology says: "This is just harassment. It is a publicity stunt cooked up by a small band of unemployed fanatics who live on the fringe of the Internet."
Soon after going on the hunt, the LAPD closed its investigation after cops had a face-to-face meeting with Ms Miscavige. Law enforcement officers say they have determined the missing persons allegation is "unfounded", though wouldn't confirm whether Shelly was being held against her will.
After leaving the Church of Scientology in July, Remini - the star of Kings of Queens - told People magazine: "I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct," adding, "That for me, that's what I'm about. It wouldn't matter what it was, simply no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to."
The New York Post had previously reported that Remini quit the controversial religion - which boasts Tom Cruise and John Travolta as members - because she had been subjected to years of "interrogations" and "thought modification." The Church denies this.
It has been reported that Remini intends to write a tell-all memoir about her time as a member of the religion.
