Lea Michele has paid tribute to Cory Monteith on what would have been the late actor's 33rd birthday.

The 28-year-old actress - who dated Cory, her 'Glee' co-star, from November 2011 until his untimely death from an overdose in July 2013 - honoured him on her Twitter account today (11.05.15) where she shared a touching message alongside a photograph of him playing the drums.

She wrote: ''I know you're serenading everyone right now...We love you Cory! Happy birthday(sic).''

The brunette beauty wasn't the only star of the Fox show to pay tribute to their former cast mate.

Kevin McHale also took to his Instagram account to share a photo of Cory reclining in an armchair.

He captioned the image: ''Not one day goes by...Happy birthday.''

The 26-year-old actor - who starred on the show as Artie Abrams over its six seasons from 2009 to 2015 - recently confessed he felt the series never recovered after Cory, who played lead character Finn Hudson, passed away.

He said: ''When Cory Monteith died, I don't think the show ever came back from that.

''It wasn't for a lack of trying...I think after that the vibe onset is different. It was just weird for us being there never mind actually filming. Being one of the writers in that sort of situation I wouldn't know what I would've done because I was like, 'I don't even really want to be here.'''
