Lamar Odom will undergo rehabilitation for ''many months.''
The 35-year-old basketball player regained consciousness over the weekend after he was found unresponsive in a Nevada brothel last week, but doctors have reportedly told his close friends and family that his recovery will likely be a long and difficult journey as the amount of permanent damage to his body is yet to be determined.
A source told gossip website TMZ.com: ''Lamar will have physical, speech, and other therapists working with him for the foreseeable future.''
His estranged wife Khloe Kardashian, 31 - who filed for divorce from her beau last year after four years of marriage - has been by his side since he was admitted to hospital and has promised to support him every step of the way.
The insider added: ''She has vowed to stay with him through the entire ordeal ... and that includes all therapy.
''She has kept a constant vigil by his bedside so far and she is determined to see this through.''
Lamar, who was initially relying on a ventilator, is said to be breathing on his own but wears a mask to aid the flow of oxygen and has attempted to speak, though he's mainly using hand signals to communicate with his relatives.
A 911 call made from the brothel in Las Vegas confirmed Lamar had taken cocaine last Saturday (10.10.15) and owner of the establishment Dennis Hof revealed he had also been taking herbal Viagra and drinking bottles of cognac.
The combination of herbal Viagra and cocaine can be deadly.
