Lady GaGa is adamant she won't follow in the footsteps of Amy Winehouse and die at the age of 27, so has vowed to curb her substance abuse.
Lady GaGa is adamant she won't join the 27 Club.
The 'Do What You Want With My Body' singer says she was dependent on smoking marijuana earlier this year, but has vowed to curb her drug use and wild behaviour because she doesn't want to die young, like Amy Winehouse.
The late 'Body And Soul' hitmaker and stars including Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison all died aged of 27 but Gaga is adamant she'll make it past her 28th birthday in March.
She said: ''I want to live and I want my fans to live. I don't want them to torture themselves in the way I have.
''I want to show people that I will last past 27 and I will last longer, and so will you. ''
The 'Applause' hitmaker is on a mission to break the idea that musicians are only remembered if they die young.
She explained: ''I want to change this code in the atmosphere that in order to be remembered, I must die young, that in order to be remembered as a legend, I must be dead first. This is unhealthy.''
Gaga turned to drugs after suffering an agonising hip injury in February, which meant she had to end her 'Born This Way Ball' world tour early, but she's determined to turn her back on illegal substances and focus on her music.
She added to a US radio station: ''Can I be brilliant without it? I know that I can be and I have to be, because I want to live.''
