The second episode of 'American Horror Story: Roanoke' aired last night (September 21st 2016) and we're no closer to finding out what's really going on inside that North Caroline farmhouse. It's safe to say that Shelby and Matt are finally in agreement that they are being haunted, but that doesn't even get near to explaining what's happening. Spoilers ahead.

American Horror StoryAmerican Horror Story presents Roanoke: Episode 2

We knew to expect Lady GaGa's return to the show and it was a treat that we didn't have to wait longer than the first episode. She arrived for episode 2 as a creepy Roanoke spirit and Kathy Bates' right hand man. Together they performed a horrific human sacrifice ceremony in the surrounding woodland, the victim's head obscured with the head of a pig. Shelby and Matt walk right in on it, finally realising what they are dealing with: cannibals.

For those who haven't seen the first episode, a quick recap. Shelby and Matt are a couple being interviewed for a documentary called 'My Roanoke Nightmare'. In the interview segments, they are played by Lily Rabe and Andre Holland, while the reenactments re-team 'The People v. O.J. Simpson' stars Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr. Angela Bassett is also in there as Matt's sister Lee. During the course of the first 'Chapter', they encounter a number of spiritual menaces from grisly apparations to a rain of teeth, as well as physical threats like racist hillbillies, dead pigs and a snuff video in the basement.

It only gets worse in Chapter 2, though we do learn the identity of the two nurse ghosts; a pair of murderous incestuous sisters called Miranda and Bridget; and discover some Charles Manson references which were rumoured to be a part of the second series.

As well as Lady Gaga, episode two also re-introduced us to Denis O'Hare, who turned out to be the guy on the video from the first episode. Also, Lee brings her daughter Flora to the farmhouse (for some unfathomable reason) along with her imaginary (or not, as the case may be) friend Priscilla, who claims that 'they' are going to kill everyone and 'save me for last'.

Needless to say, Flora is now missing.
