Lady Gaga has been in severe pain in recent weeks

Gaga has been left stricken with an injury that has caused the usually tour-hardy singer much distress, to the point where she had to go into hospital for an operation this week. The procedure was to treat a labral tear of her right hip, and after coming out of it, she took to fan site littlemonster.com to thank her fans, according to Reuters. "As they wheeled me into surgery...I thought about all of your pain and perseverance, your unique family situations, school environments, health issues, homelessness, identity struggles," wrote Lady Gaga, a constant communicator with her fans. "So I thought to myself, 'I'm alive; I'm living my dream, and this is just a bump in the road,'" she added.

Two dozen concerts have been cancelled on the forthcoming tour, a rarity for a singer who has been on the road for the best part of two years across six continents. Though the injury might well be alarming, it’s perhaps simply the 26 year-old’s body telling her that she can’t keep up that sort of pace forever. There has been no date confirmed yet as to when Gaga will return to action.
