Lady GaGa will receive 2015’s Billboard Woman of the Year award at this year’s Women in Music ceremony, it has been announced. Gaga succeeds last year’s honouree Taylor Swift for the award, which celebrates the achievements of female artists.
Lady Gaga has been named Billboard’s Woman of the Year.
For the first time in the award’s history they will be broadcast live by the Lifetime channel, as part of a new three year deal. The awards will take place on December 11th at the Cipriani Midtown in New York and air on Lifetime, December 18th.
Speaking about the awards, Liz Gateley, executive vice president and head of programming at Lifetime said, "We're delighted to partner with Billboard on this special event, bringing it to a mass audience for the first time ever.”

"Lady Gaga is an extraordinary artist, emblematic of the strength, courage and fortitude that Lifetime celebrates, and we are thrilled to offer our platform to recognize her in every way she deserves,” Gateley added.
On twitter Gaga spoke at her excitement over receiving the honour, “I can't believe @billboard named me Woman of the year thank you so much I am so so so so grateful. My gosh good morning!” the singer wrote.
"Billboard's Woman of the Year has always represented the finest in music, and the anointing of a key influential figure who drove the conversation for that year. No one embodies that more than Lady Gaga in 2015," said Janice Min, co-president a Guggenheim Media which owns Billboard.

"From her show-stopping performance at the Oscars, to her co-headlining tour, to her philanthropic outreach and foundation promoting youth wellbeing and empowerment, to her new role as TV star, there is no woman dominating popular culture tastes and its evolution as much as she is today. What a force,” Min added.
Gaga is currently gearing up for her much anticipated guest appearance on FX's 'American Horror Story: Hotel', which premieres Oct. 7th. The singer has also recently released video, ‘Till It Happens to You,’ which aims to raise awareness of sexual assaults on college campuses.
