Veronica Mars is out on DVD, and we've got a spin-off to look forward to.
The Veronica Mars crowd-funding movie gets a DVD release this week, which should see the movie's takings get somewhere near its $6 million budget and prove that the whole thing was worth it. In fact, Veronica Mars got pretty good reviews and it's safe to say that fans of the cult television series were owed a movie.
Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars in the crowd-funding movie
Those supporters who funded the movie are now getting an extra special thank you in the form of a new spin-off series on The CW. The digital-only studio announced Monday that they're launching Play it Again, Dick, with Ryan Hansen in the lead role.
The show will be co-written and produced by Mars creator Rob Thomas and will star Hansen as himself as he tries to get the character he played on Mars, Dick Casablancas, a spin-off show of his own. The show is set to debut on CW Seed later this summer. The official press release says Hansen "begs, cajoles and pleads with his former Veronica Mars castmates and friends to help him get his character" a new show - meaning we'll probably get some cameos from Kristen Bell and co.

The Veronica Mars movie followed Bell's character on the eve of graduating law school. While interviewing at high end New York law firms, Veronica gets a call from her ex-boyfriend Logan who has been accused of murder. When things don't seem right with how Logan's case is handled, Veronica turns back to her old sleuthing ways.
