The singer has become PETA's latest target.
It looks like animal rights organization PETA has found its new cause célèbre in the face of none other, but Katy Perry herself. The singer has come under fire for using animals in her latest video for the catchy chart topper Roar. According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the exotic critters used in the Roar video are likely to have been subjected to abuse.
For such an animal lover, Katy Perry might have a few sins under her belt.
The organization based these claims on the questionable track record of the company, which supplied the animals for the shoot. This according to a statement by PETA spokeswoman Merrilee Burke’s statement for The Daily Star. In her statement, Burke explained: “Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods. “They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar and frightening situations.”
The accusations have not been proven yet.
According to Burke, the previous offences of this particular company imply the possibility that the animals in Roar were treated poorly as well. “The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the ‘Roar’ video, has been inspected by the US Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001.”
This information has not been confirmed and it is unclear whether, even if the animals were mistreated, this will affect Perry or the single in any way.
So far, the song and video have been a roaring success.
