Katy Perry admits she's terrible at cooking and can't even boil an egg.

The 'Roar' hitmaker, whose 14 month marriage to comedian Russell Brand ended in divorce in 2012, is in no hurry to fulfill the stereotype of being the perfect American housewife.

The singer told German magazine Joy: ''The first thing you should know about me is that I can't even boil an egg.

''Secondly, I'm always late. I can't help it; I get it from my mother. Also I find it hard to turn down sweets if there are some in the studio.''

The 29-year-old is not always ''immaculately styled'' and said she has her bad skin days.

She said: ''There are phases when I walk around with a swollen face due to acne. It's fine for people to see me like that. Then they know you don't have to be perfect to be successful. Perfection is boring.''

The star, who is now dating musician John Mayer, had a strict upbringing with both her parents working as pastors.

She explained to Germany's Joy magazine: ''My parents are very conservative Christians, so there were a lot of things I wasn't allowed to do.

''The worst part was not being allowed to stay over at friends' houses. I wasn't allowed to watch TV and had to hide my passion for pop stars. Although I have to admit now: I didn't really miss out on much. These days I rarely turn on the TV.''
