Perry and Brand split in 2012, and now she reveals that they haven't spoken in the three years subsequently.
Katy Perry has made a rare public reflection on her split from ex-husband Russell Brand in a new interview, and it seems that she’s got no time for wallowing in sadness and generally prefers to not waste her time talking about it.
The pop superstar was talking to the Sydney Daily Telegraph at the weekend, and revealed that she hasn’t spoken to Brand at all since their 2012 divorce. “He hasn't spoken to me since he texted me saying he was filing for divorce,” she told the publication. “I don't want to talk about him - my songs will say what I need to say.”
Russell Brand and Katy Perry were married from 2010-2012, with neither speaking to each other since
Instead, 30 year old Perry has spent the subsequent time focussing on herself, forging what she calls a “little fearless invincibility streak”, and that’s she’s “excited by my own evolution” in the intervening years.
She met comedian and actor Brand in mid-2009 on the set of the movie Get Him to the Greek, and embarked on a very public romance. They married just over a year later, but their marriage disintegrated in 2012, with Perry citing conflicting schedules and her unreadiness to have children at that time in her life as the main reasons for their split.
“I'm one of those people that likes to be fearless,” she says about it three years later. “I don't like to live in fear because that traps you and your voices. Fear is a control tactic in the world that is negative and depressing and I don't want to be associated with it.”
Perry is currently in the midst of an ambitious non-stop, year-long world tour and, speaking about the future of her career, it seems she’s got no plans to let up when that’s finished. “I don't want to end up bittersweet. I have to evolve, I have to continue to push people's perceptions of me,” she explained. “As an artist I like to do that, keep people on the edge of their seats.”
