The X Factor runner up was speaking about his debut album's success when he revealed that he turned down the opportunity to cover a KP song on the show
Jahmene Douglas is currently revelling in the success of his debut album; Love Never Fails, which currently sits atop the UK Album Chart, but he still remembers his time on the show that catapulted him to his recent success. Speaking to Metro today (29 July), he revealed that he had the chance to perform Katy Perry's 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),' but turned it down because he found the lyrics a little too risque to perform on live TV.
Jahmene currently sits at the top of the UK Album Chart
"The lyrics were about threesomes and getting naked and dancing on tables and getting wasted. Ella Henderson was 16 at the time and there [were] 8-year-olds in the audience. It's wrong," the X Factor runner up told the free paper, going on to say, "I was thinking, 'I really can't minister that message to people who might be looking up to me'. It's wrong to do that. I might be being old-fashioned. I didn't realise what the lyrics were until I saw the lyric sheet. I was like, 'Whoa!'"
In his interview with the paper he also gave tribute to his mentor from the show, Nicole Scherzinger, his now friend who even appears on his debut album for a cover of Whitney Houston's 'The Greatest Love.'
Love Never Fails also feature's Douglas' own renditions of Beyonce's 'Halo,' the Coldplay track 'Fix You' and 'Titanium' by David Guetta. Jahmene's number one album is available to buy and download from the usual retail outlets. His chart success saw Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines knocked off the top spot after a two week stay and has an outside chance of keeping the top spot for a successive week.
