Soon after Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise announced their plans to divorce last Friday (June 29, 2012), fans began delving into recent photographs of the pair for tell-tale signs of their split. However, it appears that an interview given by Holmes to US Elle magazine six weeks ago could have contained a clue that all was not quite right in their relationship.
Deflecting questions about her A-list husband, the actress told the interviewer, "I'm starting to come into my own. It's like a new phase. He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years. I know who I am, and where I am, and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that". Some media outlets have suggested Holmes is already looking more positive - having been spotted out and about in New York in recent days - and she added in the interview, "I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it's like you're trying too hard to figure everything out". The actress' career has ground to a halt in recent years, while Cruise had maintained his strong Hollywood stock - most recently with 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol'.
Early reports have pointed towards Cruise's close affiliation with Scientology as a reason for the split. News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch suggested on Twitter that the actor is "second or third" in the overall hierarchy of the religion.
