The new motto is "less is more."
We’ve heard the songs and witnessed Kanye’s new musical direction and by now most people have probably decided whether they're buying Yeezus on June 18th. The redesigned cover probably won’t change too many minds, but it’s still a surprise to see such a minimal concept from someone as over-the-top as West.
Earlier this month, Kim Kardashian, ever the supportive girlfriend, instagrammed a photo of what was thought to be the album cover during Kanye’s SNL performance, which also saw him perform “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves” off the album. That design featured a melted Jesus piece and the album title scrawled on a piece of red gaffer tape on the clear CD case. More minimal than we’re used to seeing from ‘Ye, but apparently it wasn’t good enough and the new cover, revealed by DJ Semtex has been stripped even further – no more melted gold, no more fancy-schmancy cover art.
According to MTV, it’s just the red tape now and a note, inviting fans to “Please add graffiti.” Apparently audience participation is encouraged. Now, if that’s not a sign of a concept album coming up, we don’t know what is. Sadly, fans will have to wait until June 18th to get the full picture – barring the possibility that Kanye drops another single before the full album release, of course.
Kanye is going in a new direction with his music and his life.
He is preparing for the album release, as well as the birth of his child with Kim Kardashian.
