Kanye West is making his debut as a movie producer after teaming up with Jay Z for comedian Chris Rock's new film Top Five.
The rapper pals serve as executive producers on the project, with The Roots' band leader, drummer Ahmir 'Questlove' Thompson, signing on as executive music producer, reports Deadline.com.
Top Five features Rock as a fictional funnyman attempting to relaunch his career as a serious actor when his reality star fiancee convinces him to allow their wedding to be broadcast on Tv.
The movie, which was also written and directed by Rock, premiered to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada last Saturday (06Sep14). The worldwide rights to the film were snapped up by Paramount studio executives after a bidding war.
West is familiar with the storyline - he agreed to let E! Tv bosses capture footage of the lead up to his wedding earlier this year (May14) for his now-wife Kim Kardashian's reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Meanwhile, Jay Z is no stranger to producing films - he worked with Baz Luhrmann on The Great Gatsby and he's among the executives of Will Smith's upcoming Annie remake.
