Reading And Leeds Festivals Boss Melvin Benn Has Confirmed Dj Evian Christ Was Apprehended And Detained Backstage On Friday (28aug15) But Not Simply Because Security Staff Thought He Was A Gatecrasher.
The dance music star, who shot to fame after teaming up with Kanye West on the Yeezus album track I'm In It, had just performed at Bramham Park in Leeds when he was taken to a holding area reserved for those who have broken festival laws.
It is not known how long he was detained but, as a result, his Saturday (29Aug15) set at sister festival Reading was scrapped - although it's still unclear why.
Benn insists event bosses didn't ave the gig, adding that security men detained Evian Christ because he appeared to be intoxicated and refused to identify himself.
The festival chief says, "Evian was found in a not very good state in the woods, without being able or willing to disclose who he was. He was effectively held till we knew who he was. He certainly wasn't prevented from performing under any circumstances. It was his decision not to perform, not the festival's."
The DJ has yet to respond.
