Who's next on their trail of Twitter destruction?
Serial Twitter hackers, The Syrian Electronic Army, have claimed yet another victim. This time it was E! Online’s account, and they posted something that was guaranteed to get some attention.
“Exclusive: Justin Bieber to E!online: I’m a gay,” read the tweet, which, as you can imagine, garnered plenty of retweet and favourite action on the social networking site. E! suspended its Twitter account following the hack attack. “Eonline's breaking news twitter and sms accounts were compromised today,” the organization said in a statement. “We're working to have this resolved as quickly as possible and are fully investigating the incident.” The Syrian Electronic Army have been responsible for hacking some of the most followed Twitter accounts going, including 60 Minutes, the BBC, NPR, Reuters, The Associated Press and FIFA President, Sep Blatter. Justin Bieber isn’t gay, not that it would matter if he was, but the SEA have managed to make even more waves with this latest electronic takeover of a huge media outlet. Bieber’s got bigger problems than people thinking he’s something he’s not, anyway; he was attacked by a man in Dubai while closing out a performance. Worry about that instead.
Perhaps their biggest stunt was the hacking of the AP account. They claimed two explosions hit the White House and injured President Obama. This tweet caused stocks to dip and White House spokesman Jay Carney to issue a statement saying the president was fine. Crazy!
