Justin Bieber has settled a lawsuit in which a judge had threatened him with arrest if he failed to appear for a deposition, in connection with the case of a photographer who claimed he was assaulted by one of the singer’s bodyguards in Miami nearly three years ago.

In January 2014, paparazzo Manuel Munoz said that he was photographing the 22 year old Canadian singer as he exited the SET nightclub in Miami when one of his bodyguards chased him at Bieber’s behest, cornering him in a Subway sandwich shop, locking him in the bathroom and demanding he delete the photos.

The police report at the time, according to TMZ, said that the bodyguard confiscated the camera’s memory card, Munoz himself suffered no physical injuries aside from a “small scratch in his left knee”.

Bieber’s attorney, Howard Weitzman, said in a statement soon after the lawsuit was filed: “This new lawsuit filed by a paparazzo is yet another shakedown for money. The paparazzo admits that Justin was not present at the alleged ‘assault.’ The paparazzo told the police he had only scratched his knee when he was allegedly tripped, but now claims he was beat up. There are no damages.”

A judge had ordered Bieber to give a deposition in person in Miami by the end of October, but TMZ now reports that he and Munoz have settled out of court in a confidential settlement.

The alleged incident happened on the same night that Bieber was arrested and slapped with a DUI.

He is currently in the middle of the European leg of the Purpose world tour, although he’s recently been making headlines for less desirable reasons as he’s threatened to walk off stage unless his British fans stop screaming at him while he’s trying to talk between songs.
