Justin Bieber has had a controversial history concerning pets which included abandoning a monkey called Mally in Germany.

But this did not stop the 19 year-old buying a new pet over the holiday period.

While Bieber was back in his home country of Canada he paid a visit to the local pet store, Ruffin's Pet Centre, in Stratford, Ontario.

E!News reports, the pop-singer, along with his family, bought a white and brown American bulldog puppy that is only 7 weeks-old.

The gossip site also states the Bieber family are regulars at the pet store and have purchased several animals from there in the past.

Justin's father, Jeremy Bieber, took to twitter to post a message about the new pup, he wrote, "So were gona let one lucky #belieber name @justinbieber s new puppy.... Follow and find out how it can be you ")."

He also shared a picture of the family's new addition on the social network site with the caption, "Newest Bieber."

The 'Love Me' singer, who has just seen the release of his new 3D film 'Justin Bieber's Believe', is currently enjoying a break with his family, writing on twitter, "Blessed to spend Christmas with my family. Hope everyone around the world had a blessed Christmas as well. Much love."

Bieber's past pets have caused controversy, starting back in 2012 when he brought a boa constrictor to the MTV Video Music Awards but later auctioned it off to the Rad Zoo in Owatonna, Minnesota.

The 'Boyfriends' singer later gave away a hamster to an unknown female fan through a metal fence and simply walked off without looking back.

Most questionably was the purchase of a monkey called Mally, which was confiscated in Germany by airport security. Bieber had 6 weeks to present the correct paperwork that allows the monkey to travel internationally and to reclaim the pet.

But the singer didn't seem bothered too much and decided to leave the monkey in Germany and not reclaim it, Bieber has also been charged with the fee of taking care of Mally which is reportedly still unpaid and has risen to around $11,000.
