Justin Bieber has apologised to his British fans after cancelling a festival performance scheduled for later this month. The Canadian star had been due to headline the Friday night of Fusion Festival in Birmingham on August 28th, an event supported by the charitable foundation The Prince’s Trust.

However, due to an “unforeseen issue”, Bieber will be unable to take to the stage. He took to social media to break the news to the disappointed legions of Beliebers, but also told them that he’d try his best to make it up to them “soon”, attaching a formal statement to his post.

“To all my UK beliebers,” the statement read, “Due to an unforeseen issue I will be unable to perform at the Fusion Festival on August 28th. I support the Prince's Trust wholeheartedly and I am deeply disappointed I won't be able to perform. I look forward to the opportunity to give my UK beliebers a great show in the near future, and hope to honor my commitment to Trust at that time.”

The organisers of Fusion released an official statement: “It is with great regret that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber has withdrawn from his performance at Fusion Festival on Friday 28th August 2015. We are now working hard to secure another exciting act for the festival and will hopefully have some news shortly. We will also announce details of how you can apply for a refund should you require one. Please stay tuned to our social media channels for further announcements soon...”

Bieber clearly didn’t anticipate sympathetic treatment from the British press in the wake of his announcement, quickly posting: “And now the Uk press will start to tear me apart. Comes with the job. Love u guys regardless and I will make this up to you.”

Other performers at Fusion, which takes place over the weekend of the 28th-30th August in Cofton Park in Birmingham, include headliners Rudimental and McBusted, plus The Vamps, Labrinth, Rixton, Gorgon City, Jess Glynne, Ella Henderson, Conor Maynard and Sigma.
