Boxing Champ Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Has Announced His Retirement From The Ring After Successfully Defeating Andre Berto To Take His Record To 49-0 On Saturday Night (12sep15).
The undefeated fighter, who was walked into the ring by pal Justin Bieber, was declared the winner by unanimous decision after going head-to-head with Berto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and after the victory, Mayweather, Jr. revealed he had made up his mind to hand up his gloves.
Speaking to reporters after the fight, he said, "You have to know when to hang it up. I'm knocking at the door; I'm close to 40 years old.
"I've been in this sport 19 years, been a world champion 18 years, broke all the records. There's nothing else to prove in the sport of boxing. My 49-0 (record) is part of boxing. Records are made to be broken. Hopefully, some day we can find the next Floyd Mayweather."
The 38 year old, who previously claimed he would retire after reaching 50-0, added of his future plans, "I'm leaving the sport with all my faculties; I'm still sharp and smart… Now it's time to spend time with my family and children, make sure they get the proper education. I also want to help the fighters under the Mayweather banner."
