Johnny Depp, the Pirates of the Caribbean star and keen rock guitarist, jammed with boy-band One Direction at his Los Angeles studio this week. We say jam, though assume it was Johnny playing psychedelic slide guitar while the X Factor group clicked their fingers and sang along.

The A-lister arranged to meet the lads at his home as a surprise for daughter Lily-Rose, a massive fan of the band. A source told The Sun, "Johnny found out 1D were in town and, after making a few calls, they came round to his studio. He brought out his piano and guitars for the boys to test and they had a little jam session. Lily Rose just watched with her blushing mates while her dad temporarily joined the world's biggest boy-band." Presumably, Depp will be inviting the 1D boys to one of his whiskey fuelled parties with Keith Richards and the gang, once they're old enough of course. The boy-band have certainly been entertaining Hollywood's elite since arriving in the States. They were recently surrounded by 5,000 fans during a special appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in New York.

The group were in New York on Tuesday (November 13, 2012) to perform an open air gig at Manhattan's Rockefeller Centre. They performed in front of five London style red phone boxes.
