Johnny Depp Harbours No Interest In Courting Hollywood's Elite During This Year's (15) Awards Season As He Does Not Care About Winning An Oscar.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star is hotly tipped to be a contender at the next Academy Awards after receiving critical acclaim for his role as notorious gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger in Black Mass.
Johnny has never won an Oscar despite receiving three nominations over the years, for roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Finding Neverland, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
However, he is adamant he will not be striving for success on the awards circuit this season as he is not interested in taking home an Oscar.
"I don't want to win one of those things ever, you know," Johnny tells BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat. "I don't want to have to talk (give a speech)... They gave me one of those things, like a nomination, two or three times. A nomination is plenty."
Black Mass received raved reviews after it was screened at the Venice Film Festival in Italy last month (Sep15), and many critics have held Johnny up as a top pick for the Best Actor Oscar at next year's (16) ceremony.
The film tells the story of real life criminal Whitey Bulger, 86, who went on the run from authorities in 1995 and became one of America's most-wanted fugitives. He was finally captured in California in 2011 after 16 years on the run, and is currently serving life in prison.
Johnny previously revealed he had hoped to speak to Bulger in person as part of his research for the film, but the Boston crime boss turned him down.
"I don't believe he was a great fan of the book (the film is based on)," he said.
Black mass was adapted from DICk Lehr and Gerry O'Neill's bestselling 2001 book Black Mass: The True Story Of An Unholy Alliance Between The FBI And The Irish Mob.
