The actor will be joined by Cooper and Joe Perry for the band's upcoming show.
Johnny Depp re-visits his musical roots in Alice Cooper's formation of supergroup The Hollywood Vampires, named after his legendary drinking club of the same name. Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry will also join the line-up. It's no secret that the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star and Hollywood heartthrob has a foot in the music industry, it being a big part of his childhood and teenage years. But now he's solidifying that part of his personality by joining a new band: The Hollywood Vampires, alongside Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.
Johnny Depp joins the Hollywood Vampires
The Hollywood Vampires first came about in the 1970s and, while members happened to be some of the biggest rockstars in the world at the time, it was formed as drinking club rather than a band, where members were enlisted on whether or not they could drink the other members under the table. Among them were former Beatles John Lennon and Ringo Starr, as well as Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson and Bernie Taupin.
It's no wonder that Johnny Depp was roped into this new project, having previously performed with Alice Cooper on stage at various shows, notably his 2012 Los Angeles' Orpheum gig. In totally appropriate fashion, the pair became close pals after they met on the set of Tim Burton's vampire comedy 'Dark Shadows'. Depp has also previously recorded with Joe Perry, having sung backing vocals on Aerosmith's 'Music From Another Dimension'.

'Johnny has this old school rock and roll feel in his playing', Cooper confessed to Rolling Stone. 'It is very choosy and thoughtful. He gets in and out and avoids overplaying, which a lot of players should learn from. He's also not a stage hog, which surprised me at first. He's happy being up there and enjoying the music, but he never makes it about him.'

We're kind of disappointed not to see Marilyn Manson on the band's line-up, as another shock rocker Depp has had the pleasure of getting to know, with the pair having collaborated on a cover of Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain'. Depp's previous band project was P with Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones, but that group last saw action as far back as 1997.
The Hollywood Vampires are set to make their stage debut at the Rock in Rio festival in Las Vegas in May 2015.
