Following the success of NBC's 'The Sound Of Music Live!', Fox will now create their own stage production of another classic musical.
Another classic musical is being revived!
NBC's huge success with 'Sound of Music Live!' has given Fox a great idea.
The television network will create a live special of their own, and it will be a three-hour broadcast of the 1970's hit musical 'Grease.'
Fox president Kevin Reilly made the exciting announcement on Monday (April 28th).
The forthcoming live production will feature some of the iconic songs featured in the musical, such as '"You're the One That I Want,' 'Hopelessly Devoted To You,' and 'Summer Nights.'
'Grease Live' is scheduled to air in 2015 and will feature a young ensemble cast who will re-enact the story told in the original 1971 musical as well as the 1978 film, which starred John Travolta and Olivia-Newton John.
"From Broadway to film, and across generations, Grease is one of the most beloved musical stories ever told - and we can't wait to bring it to our air in a spectacular live event," Fox's senior vice president of event series Shana C. Waterman stated. "Its iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for Fox, and we're going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along."
"It's incredibly exciting to have one of our first major network productions be based on this universally celebrated Paramount title, and we're thrilled to be partnering with Kevin, Joe and Shana on this epic television event," added Paramount TV's president, Amy Powell. "Fox's passion for engaging audiences with bold storytelling and live musical formats make it a perfect home for this special broadcast."
