British actress Joanna Lumley is urging young women to stop drinking to excess because she fears too many girls in the U.K. are leaving themselves open to attacks during nights out.
The Absolutely Fabulous star is convinced Britain's heavy drinking culture is having a negative effect on young females and she has offered up some advice to stop them behaving so "badly".
Lumley urges her younger counterparts to be "polite" and "on time" and to "dress properly", and she also suggests women should avoid bingeing on alcohol as it leaves them vulnerable to rape and robbery.
She tells Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, "Don't look like trash, don't get drunk, don't be sick down your front, don't break your heels and stagger about in the wrong clothes at midnight. This is bad. It's not me being a snob about it. It's not me being an old woman talking to young women, its just standard practice for how our species should behave. Don't behave badly.
"I promise you it is better to look after yourself properly, which means behave properly, be polite, be on time, dress properly - I don't mean dully - but don't be sick in the gutter at midnight in a silly dress with no money to get a taxi home, because somebody will take advantage of you, either they'll rape you, or they'll knock you on the head or they'll rob you."
Lumley is best known for playing heavy drinking, hard-partying fashionista Patsy Stone in British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, but the actress insists she can't stand her most famous alter-ego, adding, "Patsy is a detestable character. I really loathe it."
