Sure, you probably all own a copy of the first Harry Potter book, but do you own the very same copy of the first Harry Potter book that its own author J K Rowling has? No, of course you don’t, because she does. However, you could have it soon, if you want to bid on it at auction.

That’s right, the British writer who achieved worldwide fame and a multi-million fortune off the back of a wizard with broken glasses and a scar on his forehead, is putting her own personal copy of Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone up for a bidding war, with proceeds from the sale set to go to charity, according to the Express.

Rowling hasn’t kept her book squeaky clean; it’s littered with personal annotations and comments from the author, which might well be annoying for the new prospective owner if it had been anyone else doing it – however as it was the person who actually wrote the thing that’s probably cool. Who knows, maybe somewhere in there she’s written down a secret different ending, where Voldemort trounces the school boy at the first hurdle thus rendering the rest of the books obsolete? We doubt it. The auction will take place at Sotheby’s in London tomorrow (May 21, 2013).
