J.J. Abrams is eyeing D.V. DeVincentis to write his Lance Armstrong biopic.
The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' director and Paramount Pictures are set to produce a movie based on New York Times journalist Juliet Macur's book 'Cycle of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong' and they are close to signing the 'Grosse Pointe Blank' writer to pen the script, reports Deadline.
The film would follow the disgraced cyclist's controversial career and personal trials and tribulations, including his bout with testicular cancer and his seven Tour de France victories, which were stripped away after it was discovered he used performance enhancing drugs.
The film is one of three Armstrong films in the works but was the first to be announced.
Director Stephen Frears has nearly finished shooting his movie for Studio Canal and Working Title Pictures, which will see Ben Foster play the athlete and Chris O'Dowd play journalist David Walsh, who was one of the writers who worked diligently to uncover the extent of Armstrong's doping. The film was scripted by 'Trance' writer' John Hodge and is based on Walsh's book, 'Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong'.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is backing 'Red Blooded American', which has director Jay Roach and Hollywood star Bradley Cooper on board as a producer.
That film will centre on Armstrong's relationship with fellow cyclist Tyler Hamilton, who exposed his drug use in a TV interview.
Cooper is in line to play one of the two lead roles as well as produce.
