Hollywood funnyman Jim Carrey has stepped up his feud with conservative critics in the U.S. by accusing Fox New bosses of "irresponsible buffoonery" in the ongoing dispute over his controversial gun control spoof.
The Mask star hit headlines by releasing a comedy skit about gun regulation in the U.S., portraying figures including late National Rifle Association president Charlton Heston in the clip for FunnyorDie.com.
The film, which warned of the dangers of gun ownership, sparked criticism from conservative commentators, and Carrey has now singled out bosses at Fox News, accusing them of sparking a backlash against the video.
He says in a statement, "In my opinion Fux News (sic) is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views. A media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue.
"I would take them to task legally if I felt they were worth my time or that anyone with a brain in their head could actually fall for such irresponsible buffoonery. That would gain them far too much attention which is all they really care about."
