Jesse Eisenberg says he was exaggerating when he compared Comic-Con to ''genocide.''

The 31-year-old actor, who attended the annual entertainment convention in San Diego, California last Friday (10.07.15) to promote his upcoming film 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' alongside co-stars Ben Affleck, Amy Adams and Henry Cavill, came under fire for suggesting ''being screamed at by thousands of people'' there was similar to the deliberate killing of a large group of civilians, but now insists he was just overwhelmed by the experience.

Although he didn't apologise, the star has attempted to clarify his controversial comments, saying: ''I of course was using hyperbole to describe the sensory overload I experienced. I sometimes do employ that.

''I'm a normal person who has normal sensory experiences, so Comic-Con was very overwhelming for me. That said, it was really an honour to be on that end of such jubilation.''

The actor also claims he actually thought the event was ''wonderful.''

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: ''That people are excited about it in that way is unheard of and thrilling.

''I've been on the receiving end of movies that no one loves and no one anticipates. That's worse, even though it's a much quieter press tour.''

When his 'End of the Tour' co-star Jason Segel pointed out that he is ''also the villain'' in the upcoming superhero film, Jesse, who plays Lex Luthor, added: ''They expect me to use hyperbole! If I didn't I'd be the hero who usually speaks pretty practically.''
