Katniss dominated the Thanksgiving box office, despite stiff competition from 'The Good Dinosaur' and 'Creed'.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is still on top of the US box office, for the second week running. The final part in The Hunger Games saga had faced competition from a wave of new releases, including Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, but still managed to hold tight at number one over Thanksgiving weekend.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is still number one at the US box office.
Mockingjay - Part 2 retained the number one spot with five-day total of $75.8 million, falling only 50 percent in its second week. It also brought in $62 million internationally to bring its global total to $440.7 million. So far the Hunger Games franchise has now grossed $2.7 billion worldwide.
But Mockingjay Part 2 is still behind its predecessor, which earned $82.7 million over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend last year, according to Entertainment Weekly. But the film has still scored well with critics who have called it a ‘satisfying conclusion’ to the Hunger Games saga.

In at number two was Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, which debuted to $39.2 million over three days and $55.6 million over five. The film is the fourth biggest five-day Thanksgiving opening of all time but is only the second Pixar movie ever not to open on top of the box office.
While the film failed to match the box office or critical success of Pixar’s last offering, Inside Out, it still found favour with the critics. Earning a 77% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, critics described it as a ‘thrillingly beautiful animation’ and ‘charming, family-friendly entertainment.’

Debuting in third place was Rocky follow-up Creed, which stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone. The film follows Jordan as the illegitimate son of Rocky’s former opponent Apollo Creed and was highly praised by critics. It opened with a five-day total of $42.6 million.
The week’s final new release was Victor Frankenstein, starring Daniel Radcliffe. It only managed to take the number 12 spot after pulling in a disappointing $3.4 million over five days. The film was originally scheduled to open in October 2014 and was then moved to January, before finally opening over the weekend.
