If it all goes through, this would be the third collaboration between Lawrence and the director in three years.
In her whirlwind career Jennifer Lawrence has proven that she’s not afraid to take on unusual roles, but the most recent casting rumor about her has even diehard fans scratching their heads. American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook director David O’Russell reportedly wants Lawrence to play the inventor of the Miracle Mop in his latest project, THR reports.
O'Russell is just coming out of another successful award season.
Obviously, O’Russell and Lawrence have a strong working relationship, but since O’Russell is just beginning the casting process, an actual deal might still be a ways off. Nevertheless, Jennifer Lawrence has plenty of reasons to accept a possible offer - the two O'Russell films she has done have earned her an Oscar win and a nomination, among an impressive collection of awards.
If she is cast, Lawrence would take on the part of Joy Mangano, as the film follows her through her transformation from a single mother in Long Island to a QVC star. Obvious even in the premise is the human element, the theme of an ordinary, lower middle-class character undergoing a transformation that changes their life, much like O’Russell’s other recent films.
Collaborations with O'Russell have proven especially successful for Lawrence.
The project is seen as an female empowerment tale and has a script by Annie Mumolo, the scribe behind Bridesmaids. John Davis and John Fox are producing via Fox-based Davis Entertainment. Ken Mok is also producing. The film doesn’t yet have a production schedule or approximate release date.
The project is still in the early stages, but O'Russell has made it clear he wants Lawrence for the lead.
