It was a slow weekend at the box office, with "Mockingjay" easily blowing past the competition.
Box office report time. This weekend, with nothing new (more or less) hitting theatres, the tail end of the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part I wave secured the top box office spot for the third week in a row. The weekend brought in $21.6 million for Mockingjay, with the blockbuster currently on track to become the second highest grossing movie of the year, leaving Captain America: The Winder Soldier’s $259 million in the dust and finishing directly after Guardians of the Galaxy’s $332 million), even as it continues to trail behind last year's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Mockingjay is riding high, but not enough to beat Catching Fire.
This slow weekend is nothing new, in fact it’s standard practice for things to slow down after Thanksgiving and ahead of the Christmas rush. So the top five this week looks pretty familiar.
We have DreamWorks Animation's Penguins of Madagascar staying put at No. 2 in its second outing with $11.1 million for a domestic total of $49.6 million. The animated family film fell 56 percent, according to the Hollywood Reporter. That’s quite a lot less than DWA would have hoped for, especially for a children’s animated film around the holidays.
Watch the trailer for Interstellar below.

Big Hero 6 grossed $8.1 million in its fifth weekend for a domestic total of $177.5 million in another victory for Disney Animation Studios.
