Rapper Jay Z Has Reportedly Been Slapped With A $3,000 (£1,875) Fine For Failing To Produce Proper Documentation In His Big Pimpin' Lawsuit.
The hip-hop mogul has been locked in a California court battle with Osama Ahmed Fahmy since 2007, amid allegations the hit song violates the plaintiff's rights to his uncle Baligh Hamdy's composition, Khosara, Khosara, which was released in 1957.
Jay Z has maintained the song is protected under a previous licensing agreement made by producer Timbaland, but a trial date has been set for later this year (15) if the two parties cannot come to an agreement.
In November (14), Fahmy accused the 99 Problems hitmaker and his lawyers of refusing to turn over financial paperwork to show how much the rapper made during each concert he performed the track, and a judge subsequently ordered Jay Z to produce the documents and all the licensing agreements in which he allowed Big Pimpin' to be used from 1998 to 2001.
Fahmy claims he eventually received the paperwork, but many parts were redacted and he was unable to save or print the documents.
Last month (May15), he filed legal papers asking a judge to fine the 45 year old $100,000 (£62,500), in addition to a daily fee of $1,000 (£625), until he turned over the full paperwork.
Jay Z objected, insisting the censored portions of the reports were confidential Live Nation contracts, but the judge has since sided with Fahmy and has ordered the rap superstar to pay $3,000, according to TheJasmineBrand.com.
