Jay Z's stylist said some stars 'didn't get' Met Gala theme. She explained the likes of Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian did not stick to the theme.
Jay Z's stylist says some people didn't understand this year's Met Gala theme.
June Ambrose - who dressed the rapper for the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last week - has revealed she thinks some stars ''didn't get'' the theme of China: Through The Looking Glass, when celebrities turned up looking anything but.
June said: ''I love that some people got it and some people didn't.''
The fashion expert even claimed Jay Z's wife Beyonce's barely-there dress, as well as those worn by Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian West, didn't quite work on the night.
She explained: ''It was a lot of that sheer, Bob Mackie-inspired pieces, which is not Chinese.''
However, the costume designer admits she thinks they all looked great despite taking the theme into their own hands.
She added: ''But, you know, they're musicians. Do they follow rules? Never. Listen, they were stage-savvy. A lot of people thought they weren't right for that particular venue.
''But when you have a killer body like those ladies have -and again, they're musicians, they're artists, they're not models - they're gonna take things out of context. You don't really give them rules. And, I thought they all looked incredible.''
Meanwhile, June claims she ''went rogue'' when it came to dressing 'Holy Grail' rapper Jay.
She told the New York Post newspaper's PageSix column: ''I work with Jay, we didn't do a white tie, but he was the perfect accessory for his lady.''
