Jay Z has addressed his critics in his newest track Open Letter, released and recorded in just 24 hours.

The rapper/music mogul/businessman/overall money-making machine spoke out against his critics, who have been saying that him selling his share in the Brooklyn Nets means that Jay-Z is abandoning the borough and brooklynites.

“Would’ve brought the Nets to Brooklyn for free/Except I made millions off it, you f---in’ dweeb,” he rhymes in his new track, directed at critics from Havana to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Jay-Z insists he is only cashing out of the Nets, not the borough or the arena. However, there are those who are ready to accuse the mogul of just looking after his own business interests, which, to be fair, he probably is.

“As soon as he found a better deal for himself, he dumped (the Nets),” said Daniel Goldstein, a longtime critic of the development. “It’s about Jay-Z and his business and this is the best business move for him to do. It’s got nothing to do with the Nets or Brooklyn.”

In the song Jay also addresses the flack he and wife Beyonce have been getting over their recent trip to Cuba, though the accuracy of the lyrics is debatable. “Obama said, ‘Chill, you gonna get me impeached’/But you don’t need this s--t anyway/Chill with me on the beach.” Overall, Open Letter is a great PR move for Mr Carter, though it probably isn’t the most reliable account of events. Then again, we should have learned by now to take all “open letters” with a grain of salt.

A lot of the hate Jay Z has been getting is cetered around his ill-timed Cuba trip with Beyonce.
