Australian filmmaker James Wan is set to produce the new 'Mortal Kombat' movie.
James Wan is to produce the new 'Mortal Kombat' film.
The 38-year-old filmmaker - whose previous credits include directing 'Insidious' and 'Furious 7' - has signed on to play an important role with the much-discussed reboot based on the popular video game series.
The movie's script is being put together by Oren Uziel and Dave Callaham, who have previously worked together on 'Mortal Kombat Legacy' and 'The Expendables'.
The new 'Mortal Kombat' movie will add to the list of projects James is preparing to take on, which includes directing 'The Conjuring 2' and 'Aquaman' for Warner Bros.
He will, however, be hoping to replicate the success of 'Furious 7', which became one of the highest grossing movies of all time when it was released earlier this year.
The movie's success has already ensured that an eighth installment will be made, with Jason Statham telling fans to expect some ''great stuff''.
The British actor - who plays Deckard Shaw in the franchise - explained: ''The fanbase is very unique.
''They really do relate to the characters. They love these characters. They've followed them for years and years.
''We're already talking about doing another one, part eight, and I'm a newcomer. I just got invited to the party in this last one, so it's nice to know that I'll be doing another.''
