Based on a true story, an impressive cast leads audiences through the 1996 mountain disaster
The trailer for the new disaster movie Everest has just been released and the frightening majesty of the mountain and those who try to climb it is ever-present during the short teaser preview.
The explorers reach the summit in Everest but what awaits them is even more frightening
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and Keira Knightley Everest follows the famous 1996 disaster when a group of intrepid travellers reached the summit of the world’s highest mountain only to be greeted with one of the biggest snowstorms they’d ever seen heading right for them.
Its large and impressive cast also includes Robin Wright, Sam Worthington, Emily Watson and Michael Kelly and its director, Baltasar Kormakur looks like he’s pulled no punches.
The pure fear when faced with such a snowstorm was not as fictional as some if the film’s crew may have liked when the second unit crew found themselves in the vicinity of the April 2014 avalanche that killed 13 people. None of the fatalities were from the film crew, however.
The film was shot in part in Nepal on the foothills of Everest and, speaking at CinemaCon, Kormakur said: "We set out to make a film as authentic as possible."

With that in mind, the trailer ends with a note: "Please join Universal Pictures and the filmmakers of Everest in supporting earthquake relief in Nepal. Visit oxfamamerica.org to donate."
