It looks like this is it for the most commercially successful member of the X team.
It’s the end of the line for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, folks. Officially. Sort of. The rumours that Wolverine 3 will be Jackson’s last have been circulating for a while, but he added yet more fuel to the fire with his most recent instagram post just added fuel to the fire.
Jackman posted a photo of his claw-enhanced fists on Instagram, ostensibly announcing that he had wrapped filming for the movie, set to be released in 2017. But he also seemed to be announcing something else. “WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME,” he captioned the Instagram photo Saturday, which showed him only wearing a single pair of the famous metal claws.
So far, Jackson’s run as Wolverine has lasted for 15 years, starting with the 2000 movie, which kicked off the franchise. Jackman has portrayed the character seven times, including in two Wolverine stand-alone films and a brief cameo in X-Men: First Class. He was last seen on the big screen as Wolverine in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Jackman has definitely given some mixed signals over the past year about his departure, but this seems as close to the announcement as we’re about to get pre-release. The flick is a follow-up to Days of Future Past, which sees stars such as James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence portray younger versions of the X-Men characters. It is not yet known if Jackman's social media post means he won't reprise his role as Wolverine in Apocalypse.
