The cast and crew of Man of Steel embark on a round-the-world red carpet tour, while new behind-the-scenes clips emerge for The Bling Ring and The Lone Ranger. Plus, we finally get a teaser for Naomi Watts' Princess Diana biopic...
The new Superman and Lois Lane, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, were out on the red carpet this week for two big premieres for Man of Steel, the franchise reboot by Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan. After major events in Los Angeles and London, they're now heading to Shanghai. Critical reaction has been strongly positive to the film, which opens this weekend.
Also opening this weekend in America, and July 5th in the UK, The Bling Ring tells the true story of a group of teens who systematically robbed Hollywood homes, including those of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. The film's star Emma Watson, discusses the movie in a special short feature alongside director Sofia Coppola and producer Youree Henley.
The publicity machine is cranking up for next month's big action-comedy Western The Lone Ranger, with the release of a special short film revealing back-stage preparations at Cowboy Bootcamp. Armie Hammer and Ruth Wilson show off their new shooting, riding and rope-throwing skills for the cameras.
This week's big teaser trailer is for Diana, starring Naomi Watts as the "People's Princess". Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall), the film looks like a beautifully made account of the final two years before Diana's death at age 36 in 1997. Expect awards attention later this year. It opens in September.
This week we also got our first glimpse of Woody Allen's next all-star comedy, Blue Jasmine, which stars Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K., Bobby Cannavale, Sally Hawkins and Peter Sarsgaard. It's about a wealthy housewife who is forced to return home in disgrace and piece her life back together. It looks lively and funny, and opens in the autumn.
Also opening in the autumn is the action thriller Getaway, in which Ethan Hawke stars as a driver ordered around by unseen villain Jon Voight. Along the way he teams up with teen Selena Gomez in order to rescue his kidnapped wife. The trailer makes the movie look like a loud, stupid guilty pleasure, as if Taken was crossed with Fast & Furious.
And finally, we had our first look at The Family, the new comedy-thriller from Luc Besson. In a trailer and a series of new stills, we can see the all-star cast really getting into their roles as a mob family that moves from Brooklyn to rural France after snitching on the mafia. But old habits die hard. The film stars Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones and Diana Agron, and is out in November.
