"Cool Britannia" all over again?
Tonight, one of Whitehall’s most ornate and decorative buildings, the Foreign Office, will play host to a reception. The guest list: A-listers from the world film. The cause: celebrating the achievements of Britain's creative industries.
Benedict Cumberbatch is among some stellar stars attending The Foreign Office tonight
The bash has already been compared to Tony Blair’s ‘Cool Britannia’, something Number 10 is keen to dissociate tonight’s bash from. Although with David Cameron likely set to offer up some form of toast, the similarities are there for all to see. Blair’s 1997 saw many cultural icons attend, like Oasis’s Noel Gallagher – only the stars turned on the government and were openly critical of its practises.

No official gueslist has been announced, but it is thought that Harrison Ford, Helena Bonham Carter and Benedict Cumberbatch will comprise a notable section of the invitees. Emma Watson, Chiwetel Ejiofor and the current James Bond, Daniel Craig are all thought to be attending, while Nicole Kidman, Dame Helen Mirren, Ralph Fiennes, Eliza Doolittle, Simon Cowell and classical singers Bryn Terfel and Katherine Jenkins are also said to be on the list.
Ford, reportedly on the first names on the list, is presumably there because of his current Star Wars Episode VII commitments – the sci-fi reboot and a subsequent spin off are being filmed at Pinewood Studios, something George Osbourne expressed his unbridled delight about recently.
